Personal Self-Employment Mission:
It’s fantastic being your own boss -- making your own decisions, being the only one responsible for profits and losses, getting the opportunity to be creative, and specialize in all aspects of your business. My goal is to make it in the retail food industry – not particularly easy but very rewarding.
History of Employment/Studies:
After 17 years of undergraduate work (couldn’t decide on a major!), I finally graduated with an undergraduate degree from San Diego State University and then in a relatively short period of time (only 4 years) received my Master of Public Administration from University of Colorado. At the Denver Housing Authority, I worked in Community Resources and Services in several different positions over 6 years. My first assignment was to operate the Community Resource and Study Centers in each of the housing developments. I also dabbled in the Youth Sports programs and Employment and Training. Got to work a lot with residents including children and that was fun but working with the hierarchy of a quasi-governmental agency was no fun at all! I moved on to the non-profit world, working for the Home Builders Institute for 7 years. As program manager, I was responsible for operating the Denver branch of this federal organization. Our goals were to provide employment training and placement in the construction industry for people with disabilities and individuals coming out of the state prison system. Very rewarding, lots of great people, but all of our funding was from grants and contracts and finding enough money to run training programs every year can be challenging – especially with the Bush administration in power! Four years ago it was time to move onto my own thing – and here I am.
If you could only listen to one song for the rest of time, what would it be? Why?
Only one song over and over? Could I just kill myself instead? On my computer at the store, I have almost 750 songs that I listen to every day. Even listening to that many songs over and over makes me want to run out the door screaming so I can’t imagine listening to just one song all the time.
God comes to you with a plate. And says that you can pick a main dish, a side dish, a dessert, and a drink to put on this plate. But whatever you choose, that is what will be on your plate everytime you eat for the rest of time. What do you choose:
You know I can’t pick just one thing – variety is the spice of life! How about a kitchen, a garden, and a little stream running through the yard and I’m on my own.
You've just won $100,000,000. What are the first 5 things you do?
First be debt free ( – ahhhh the luxury!), then let others enjoy the feeling of being debt free, and finally I’d give really great birthday presents.
