The Mountain Music Ensemble
Mission:
To enrich Colorado’s musical culture by presenting unique works for small ensembles including oboe and guitar to audience members from all walks of life.
History of Business:
The Mountain Music Ensemble originated in 2001 when three faculty members at the Rocky Mountain Center for Musical Arts decided to meet regularly to explore music for the unique instrumentation of oboe, guitar, and flute. Quickly exhausting the available repertoire, the group commissioned a new work in 2003, “Landscapes” by Chappell Kingsland. The group presented to diverse audiences across the front range, including those at elementary schools, retirement and nursing homes, and non-profit organizations. The format of the group is flexible, ranging from duo to trio, which has allowed the group to continue even as members have taken time off for professional development. All three founding members now live in the state of Colorado and collaborate regularly, still offering unique music of the highest caliber to audiences from all walks of life. The Mountain Music Ensemble continued their support of new music with a commissioned work for oboe and guitar by Colorado composer Marcia Marchesi in 2008. Performing at venues ranging from colleges to bars, concert halls to nursing homes, the Mountain Music Ensemble looks forward to an exciting future of cultural enrichment in Colorado.
What we offer:
A unique and inspired collaboration of oboe and guitar, the Mountain Music Duo performs not only classical music, but also fresh interpretations of familiar jazz and pop standards. We bring polished, evocative elegance to performances and events, as well as insight and excitement to students of all ages.
Future Goals/Direction of the Business:
Though the musicians of the Mountain Music Ensemble are internationally known, we are primarily interested in maximizing our performance potential in Colorado. By booking steady engagements and more frequent performances at a variety of venues around the state, we may also expand to become a larger group of musicians. Eventually, we may become a non-profit to most effectively enrich Colorado’s musical culture.
